Fourteen-year-old Anastrarelia “Reli” Ward has spent the majority of her life on the moon, raised in a government-run orphanage designed to keep kids like her out of sight, and out of the future. In a society obsessed with The Absolute, a system promising healthier, happier lives, orphaned children are considered statistical noise: population fillers.
So when the orphanage is given FLETE scholarships to attend any of the five traveling high school ships, Reli believes it’s her one chance to prove that her life can matter.
Reli doesn’t get in.
At least, that’s what the system tells her.
Her three closest friends are selected for Galactic Point, FLETE’s flagship school, while Reli is quietly excluded for “academic failure,” a claim that doesn’t match what she knows she earned. Reli pushes for answers but is ignored. Desperate, she turns to a man willing to exploit her situation.
As her friends prepare to leave, Reli is forced to accept her fate. She realizes that FLETE doesn’t reward excellence; it manufactures it. Her faith in the system wanes.
On launch day, Reli is surprised with a conditional admission to Galactic Point, no explanation, no apology. The unspoken message is clear: you are being allowed in, not welcomed.
As Reli boards the ship, all her dreams have come true, but at what cost?
